Executive Director & Producer of Presidio Dance Theatre
"There's nothing like lifting hearts and spurring imaginations!"
J. Bretschneider
Judy has a long history of activism in her community and works to raise awareness on arts and cultural education issues, encouraging people to serve their communities. She was the first student to receive the City of San Francisco's prestigious Human Relations Award. Mayor Joseph Alioto (1969) presented the award to Judy and recognized her outstanding achievement and cultural impact in the field of human relations, as the creator of International Nations Day - a day to celebrate the rich diverse cultures of San Francisco, through dance, music, and exhibits. She holds Bachelor and Master of Arts Degrees in Developmental Psychology from San Francisco State University. She studied Piano at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and has a Minor Degree in Music.
Judy has maintained this lifelong passion for the arts and celebrating diversity and is an active participant with numerous national organizations and academic associations which promote the arts, and popular guest speaker at national conferences. She is a certified Program Planner and Consultant, and has guested on local, national and international television. With considerable knowledge and major accomplishments in the non-profit sector, and as a community organizer throughout the Bay Area, Northern and Central California and on the East Coast for this cause, Judy works diligently to bring multi-cultural arts opportunities to children.
After extensive travel in Russia, Germany, France, and the United States, studying highly regarded performing arts programs, Judy co-founded the Presidio Performing Arts Foundation (PPAF) in 1997. In 1998, PPAF received its 501(c)(3) status and became a California Non-Profit Public Benefit Corporation. What started as a “Family Project” has grown into an exemplary and premiere organization based in America’s only urban National Park, the Presidio of San Francisco. PPAF’s programs are supported by the community, foundations, the California Arts Council/National Endowment of the Arts, and individuals who share the founders’ vision.
Judy received the 2006 Jefferson Award from the American Institute for Public Service, presented by Sam Beard of Washington DC for her volunteer work with PPAF. The Jefferson Award is considered the Nobel Prize for Community Service, initiated by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. She serves on the Board of Directors of the Presidio Performing Arts Foundation since its inception as a volunteer, and is the Executive Director of Presidio Dance Theatre which includes: A professional adult dance company; Presidio Dance Theatre Junior Company, a pre-professional youth ensemble; The School of Presidio Dance Theatre; and DANCE OUT! outreach to underserved children in San Francisco.
Her door is always open to those who would like to join the cause and volunteer to BRING THE WORLD OF DANCE INTO THE LIVES OF CHILDREN™. Judy’s office is located at 1158 Gorgas in the Presidio of San Francisco. 415 561-3958.
