Costume Exhibition

Presidio Dance Theatre and Paintbrush Diplomacy

collaborate to present “Dancing Across Cultures,” which showcases the international collection of children’s costumes designed by the artists and designers of the Kirov Ballet (Mariinsky Theatre) of Saint Petersburg, and others, especially for the company. Paintbrush Diplomacy’s 20-year international children’s art collection is also showcased, coordinating artwork with national costumes. The exhibit is an opportunity to greatly enhance the viewing experience of the museum quality costumes for youth and adults by providing accompanying artwork by children, activities to learn about the cultures behind the costumes, and live performances to demonstrate how costumes, as an art form, support the choreography and music of a production.

It gives children the opportunity to imagine, through color, texture, sound, and movement, what life is like for other young people around the world. Presidio Performing Arts Foundation has sponsored the exhibitions with support from the Shulte and McKesson Foundations, California Arts Council, and Macy’s West for the public at the Herbst International Exhibition Hall; Macy’s Windows at Union Square, Community Day for the Arts; and the Ferry Building. Next exhibition will be at the San Francisco International Airport.
